BOTOX AND DYSPORT DENVER

Wrinkle Relaxers, also known by the brand names Botox and Dysport, are OnabotulinumtoxinA. Both Botox and Dysport are FDA approved cosmetic injectable treatments which temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe fine lines and wrinkles. When injected into the muscle, Botox and Dysport block the nerve singals to the muscles reducing the underlying muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles to form. Once your Botox or Dysport take effect, the muscles can no longer contract which prevents future wrinkles and allows static lines to relax and soften. Wrinkle Relaxers are a very effective prejuvenation or preventative treatment to reduce lines from the natural aging process. Both Botox and Dysport injections are quick, safe and effective.

How does Botox and Dysport work?

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. Botox and Dysport work beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes lines and wrinkles to form. Your injector will inject these muscles to help make frown lines temporarily look better. Common areas of activity and treatments include:

BETWEEN THE BROWS: When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold.

FOREHEAD: When you raise your eyebrows, the muscles on your forehead contract

AROUND THE EYES: When you squint or smile, the muscles around your eyes contract, causing crow’s feet

Other areas of the face and body can be treated with Botox and Dysport neurotoxin wrinkle relaxers for a no-downtime, quick and easy treatment option.
LIP FLIP: A few injections on either side of the upper lip can relax the muscles so more of the upper lip is exposed to give lips a fuller look.

GUMMY SMILE: The muscles between the nose and the mouth can be injected to relax the upper lip and improve the look of a gummy smile.

DROOPY SMILE: Injecting the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) relaxes the muscle which pulls the corners of the mouth down so the corner of the mouth is restored to normal contour.

UNDERARMS: Neurotoxin can be injected into areas with excessive sweating. Injections block the receptors which activate your sweat glands and prevents them from producing sweat.

NECK BANDS: The Platysmal Bands are prominent vertical lines that become more visible as we age. These bands can cause skin to look crepey and the neck area to appear aged. Botox can relax these bands giving the neck a younger look.

NOSE: The top of the nose and the bridge of the nose, also referred to as Bunny Lines, can be treated to reduce the lines that appear when the nose is scrunched up.

What happens during my Toxin treatment?

Prior to treatment, you will have a consultation with your injector to discuss your goals, expectations, and determine which neurotoxin product will be right for you, Botox or Dysport or a combination of both. We will also review pre-treatment prep, what to avoid prior, and what to expect post neurotoxin treatment.

Botox and Dysport injections are done in-office and the entire appointment is about a 30-minutes. The actual treatment is very quick and injections typically take 15-minutes. When you arrive for your appointment, photos will be taken and your cosmetic goals reviewed.

Your injector will review the areas being treated, discuss the amount of product in each area and then draw up the neurotoxin for injecting. We use extremely tiny needles for injecting Botox and Dysport which helps with patient comfort. While you can feel a pinch with each injection, our injectors are quick and very skilled at making the treatment as comfortable as possible while minimizing any pain. The face is prepped and then injected, and you’re done! Results will begin to take affect within 3-5 days with the full effect seen 2-weeks later.

What happens after my Toxin treatment?

You may experience swelling, slight redness, tenderness and bruising as with any injectable treatment, this typically only lasts a few hours to a few days. Since everyone heals differently, your recovery will depend on you. Minimize bruising and swelling by avoiding heat, strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. Do not massage or rub the area for 48 hours, and do not lay down immediately after treatment. It is recommended to wait 2-weeks before getting any cosmetic treatments in the area of your injections.

How long do Toxins last?

Each wrinkle relaxer product kicks in a little differently with Botox taking effect about a week after treatment with full effects seen 2-weeks later. Dysport takes effect a few days after treatment and with full effects seen about a week after treatment. Everyone metabolizes neurotoxin differently but both Botox and Dysport typically last between 3-4 months.

What are the side effects?

During clinical trials, patients reported tenderness, swelling, headache, and bruising at the injection site but these typically resolve within 2-weeks. Serious risks such as infection, blood vessel damage, eye problems, or drooping can happen. You should avoid neurotoxin products if have previously had an allergic reaction or if you are allergic to Botox or Dysport or any of their ingredients.
