SCULPTRA
COLLAGEN STIMULATOR
SCULPTRA IN DENVER
Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that helps restore facial volume by activating your skin’s natural regenerative process and replenishing collagen. Earning the name of collagen stimulator or bio stimulator, Sculptra helps stimulate your own collagen production which over time reinforces your skin’s inner structure while adding volume, softness, and radiance to the skin. Dr. Mary Margaret Kober offers Sculptra collagen bio stimulator treatments at our Denver Med Spa.
HOW DOES SCULPTRA WORK?
Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). This synthetic material is a biocompatible, biodegradable substance which has been used in medical products, including dissolvable sutures, for more than 30 years. Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a collagen stimulator that is injected into the dermis to help restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. As the PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually, replacing your skin’s inner structure and volume over time, helping to restore volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.
Sculptra can be used to treat the cheeks, temples, jawline, nasolabial folds, periocular region, and chin to address volume loss and to improve skin quality and minimize wrinkles. Sculptra can also be used on the body to add volume and improve skin texture by rejuvenating, smoothing, and filling areas like the buttocks, thighs, décolletage, and neck.
SCULPTRA vS FILLERS
Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary rejuvenation treatments designed to add volume to the skin. Sculptra is different from hyaluronic acid fillers because it helps treat an underlying cause of facial volume loss and the reduction of collagen. Collagen acts as the skin’s support structure and helps maintain the skin’s shape. As we age, we lose collagen, and the skin’s inner structure is weakened, reducing its ability to maintain elasticity and moisture, and giving the face a sagging, wrinkled, hollowed, or tired appearance. Sculptra works deep within the skin’s surface and is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body to help stimulate collagen production, reinforcing the skin’s inner structure to provide a natural-looking, more youthful result.
If you need immediate volume correction, hyaluronic acid fillers are the best option as the results are immediate. The instant volume and plumping effects of hyaluronic acid fillers decline over 9 to 12 months. In contrast, with Sculptra your body produces your own collagen, which is natural-looking, gradual, and can last up to 25+ months. Sculptra results can be seen around 6 to 8 weeks since your body makes new collagen and replenishes lost volume. Think of Sculptra as your long-term rejuvenation solution! 😉
SCULPTRA TREATMENT
Prior to treatment, you will have a consultation with Dr. Mary Margaret Kober to discuss your goals, expectations, and determine how many treatments you will need. We will also review pre-treatment prep (what to avoid two weeks prior) and what to expect post Sculptra treatment.
Sculptra injections are done in-office and take about an hour. When you arrive for your appointment, photos will be taken, and a topical numbing cream will be applied. The actual injections typically take just a few minutes. Sculptra is mixed with lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during and after treatment, and the topical numbing agent can make the treatment more comfortable.
Dr. Kober will inject the Sculptra product into specific areas of the face or body using a cannula. The solution is injected in small amounts with Dr. Kober distributing the product evenly and aesthetically in areas lacking volume. Once the injections are complete, Dr. Kober will gently massage the area to spread the product and ensure an even distribution, so the collagen production happens consistently and not in clumps.
SCULPTRA POST CARE
Immediately after your treatment you will notice plumping in the area where the injections took place, this is just a combination of the water mixed with the poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and swelling. This effect will subside within a few days as the product begins to integrate. You may experience slight redness, tenderness, and bruising, as with any injectable treatment; this typically only lasts for a few days depending on how you heal. Minimize bruising and swelling by avoiding heat, strenuous exercise, and alcohol for 48 hours.
During the first five days post-Sculptra injections, Dr. Kober will ask you to massage the areas of the face using the rule of five (5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days). This gentle self-massage will help the particles distribute evenly and reduce the chances of lumps of product forming.
HOW MANY SCULPTRA TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
Typically, three treatment sessions are needed over a few months. The treatments are scheduled at four to six weeks apart as your body gradually develops new collagen fibers. Studies have shown patients who have received Sculptra injections still have more collagen after three years after their procedure as compared to the average of their age group. This speaks to the longevity of Sculptra treatments and the benefit of building your new collagen within the skin. Your collagen is yours! Once you have achieved optimal overall correction, maintenance treatments can be done every two to five years or as needed to continue replenishing your collagen.
A good rule of thumb with Sculptra is one vial per decade, and Sculptra can be used for prejuvenation to prevent collagen loss and maintain the collagen you have. Scultpra can be started in your 20s or 30s to prevent the need for more aggressive correction later in life.
HOW LONG DOES SCULPTRA LAST?
Results appear gradually over a few months and are long-lasting, more than two years. Since the aging process continues, we recommend maintaining your results with additional treatments as needed.
SCULPTRA BUTT LIFT
The Sculptra butt lift uses a dermal filler injection that naturally works with your body to stimulate the production of collagen, which gives your buttocks an improved structure and shape. Dr. Mary Margaret Kober can use this Sculptra to help you get a curvier, fuller buttocks without surgery.
At your consultation, Dr. Kober will develop your customized treatment plan to ensure you get your desired results. This non-surgical procedure involves multiple injections of Sculptra into your buttocks, stimulating your body's natural collagen production. It may take several weeks or months to see your final results as the collagen gradually increases the volume in your buttocks. After the procedure, you will be able to leave our office and resume your regular activities. You might have mild redness, bruising, or swelling in and near the injection sites for a few days afterward, but it should fade on its own.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?
During clinical trials, the most common side effects after initial treatment include injection site swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching and lumps. Serious complications with Sculptra are rare and can be avoided by receiving treatment in a reputable aesthetics practice with experienced injectors. Patients who have received Sculptra treatments from inexperienced providers are more likely to see serious risks such as infection, blood vessel damage, or asymmetrical results. You should avoid Sculptra products if have previously had an allergic reaction to any ingredient of the product or have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. Safety has not been established in patients who are pregnant, lactating, breastfeeding, or under 18 years of age.
